چکیده

This study introduces electro-optical (EO) sensors (TurbNet sensors) that utilize a remote laser beacon (either coherent or incoherent) and an optical receiver with CCD camera embedded edge AI computer (Jetson Xavier Nx) for in situ evaluation of the path-averaged atmospheric turbulence refractive index structure parameter Cn2 at high temporal rate. Evaluation values was performed using deep neural network (DNN)-based real-time processing short-exposure laser-beacon light intensity scintillation patterns (images) captured by TurbNet sensor receiver. Several pre-trained DNN models were loaded onto used performance set propagation inference trials under diverse meteorological conditions. model training, validation, testing datasets comprised large number instances frames corresponding reference (“true”) measured side-by-side commercial scintillometer (BLS 2000). Generation University Dayton’s (UD) 7-km test range. The results demonstrated 70–90% correlation between obtained those scintillometer.

Scintillation of nonuniformly polarized beams in atmospheric turbulence.

We demonstrate, through numerical simulations, that an appropriately chosen nonuniformly polarized coherent optical field can have appreciably smaller scintillation than comparable beams of uniform polarization. This results from the fact that a nonuniformly polarized field acts as an effective two-mode partially coherent field. The results described here are of direct relevance to the developm...

Scintillation of pseudo-Bessel correlated beams in atmospheric turbulence.

The concept of pseudo-Bessel correlated beams is introduced, and their scintillation properties on propagation through turbulence are investigated. By using the Rytov approximation, the scintillation index of pseudo-Bessel correlated beams is formulated in weak turbulence. The study of scintillation is extended into strong turbulence by numeric simulations. It is shown that by choosing an appro...

Scintillation of nonuniformly correlated beams in atmospheric turbulence.

We investigated the scintillation properties of nonuniformly correlated (NUC) beams in atmospheric turbulence and have shown that NUC beams can not only have lower scintillation but also higher intensity than Gaussian-Schell model beams and even higher intensity than coherent Gaussian beams over certain propagation distances.

A Unifying Statistical Model for Atmospheric Optical Scintillation

Atmospheric optical communication has been receiving considerable attention recently for use in high data rate wireless links (Juarez et al., 2006)-(Zhu & Kahn, 2002). Considering their narrow beamwidths and lack of licensing requirements as compared to microwave systems, atmospheric optical systems are appropriate candidates for secure, high data rate, cost-effective, wide bandwidth communicat...

Adaptive Optical System Atmospheric Turbulence Generator Testbed

At the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), we have developed a testbed for simulating atmospheric turbulence using Kolmogorov statistics for testing the correctibility of an Adaptive Optical System (AOS). In this testbed, a Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulator is being used to induce the atmospheric turbulence and a MEM deformable mirror is being used in the AOS to correct it. This atmospheric t...
